bullet  General Notes:

Source : <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nygreen2/charles_knight.htm> :
John Knight, Jr., the father of Charles, was about eleven years old when he came to Delaware County from Philadelphia, and settled on the farm of Judge Preston. He could remember the surrender of Cornwallis, and had seen Washington. He was one of the first settlers of the Delaware Valley, and always followed the river as a lumberman, being also a farmer. His first wife was Rebecca Jenkins, a sister of Judge Preston's wife, and by her he had two children--- William and Daniel. She died in 1804, and in 1806, he married Esther G. Sands. They were the parents of ten children, seven of whom grew to maturity, namely: John; Richard; Edward, who was lost in the woods at the age of four years, his remains not being discovered until the next summer; Mary; Hannah; George; Henry; Rebecca; Elizabeth and Charles. Mary died at the age of fourteen, and three others died within a few days of one another, of a prevalent disease. John Knight, Jr., was the first Supervisor of Hancock, and held the respect of his townsmen throughout his life. He was a Whig, and both he and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church. He died of a fever, April 9, 1843, at the age of sixty-two. And his wife survived him nineteen years, dying November 7, 1862.

- "I descend from John Knight, Jr, who was born in 1780 and died April 9, 1843. He was my great, great, great grandfather. When he was about 11 years old he moved from Philadelphia up the Delaware River to the area near Hancock, New York, a small village at he confluence of the East and West Branches of the Delaware River"
- "John Knight (1780-1843), my great, great, great grandfather is the John who came to Stockport from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when he was about 12 years old. Stockport is extremely small hamlet. Today it has no post office or stores. It is located just downstream from the spot where the East and West Branches join to form the Delaware River. Stockport straddles the river, so some of it is in the state of Pennsylvania, and some of it is in the state of New York"

"Captain John Knight, from Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, came about 1785 and settled below Stockport. He had two sons by his first wife, who was a sister of Judge Samuel Preston's wife. Their names were William and Daniel. His second wife was Hetty Sands, daughter of Benjamin Sands, an old pioneer. By her he had five sons, Richard, John, George, Charles and Edward. The last named, when six years old, got lost from the school-house and could not be found, though diligently searched for several days. His bones were found the next year in the woods"
