A Mendenhall researcher, who does not belong to any Rootsweb mailing lists, has asked me to pass along this information. She appears to have discovered the identity of Elizabeth, mother of this Robert Chamberlin by her 1st marriage and later wife of Francis Hickman. Francis and Elizabeth Hickman came to Chester Co,.PA with their Hickman children following the arrival of her son Robert Chamberlin. There is excellent evidence, based on wills, that Elizabeth was Elizabeth Stroud, daughter of Anthony Stroud and Margery Barley, and sister of Joan Stroud, wife of Thomas Mendenhall, parents of the Mendenhall siblings who came to Chester Co. This is a very exciting find. Anyone who would like me to forward to them the e-mails spelling out the evidence should contact me.

... Robert Chamberlain, Sr., was son of Elizabeth, wife of Francis Hickman, by her former husband, a Chamberlain. This information comes from Fuhey and Cope's "History of Chester County, Pennsylvania". We know from wills that Elizabeth was daughter of Anthony and Margery Barley Stroud and also a sister of Joane Stroud Mendenhall, wife of Thomas Mendenhall (parents of Mary Woodward who married Nathaniel Newlin). The proof of Elizabeth's parentage is found in the wills of Anthony Stroud, Margery Stroud, and Benjamin Barley which are posted on a Mendenhall Documents Web Page <http://mendenhall.8m.com/mfadocs.html>....

A large LDS Ancestral File, also two large Pedigree Resource Files, for the Lambourne Chamberlains, include Elizabeth Chamberlain, b. 25 Jul 1640, Lambourne, Berkshire, England, the last of six children born between 1632 and 1640, of Thomas & Margaret Chamberline of Woodline, Lambourne, Berkshire, England. The source for Elizabeth's reported birthdate is not listed, and no christening date is shown (why not, because christening dates are listed for each of her older siblings). This Elizabeth is shown as the wife of Robert Chamberlayne (marriage date & children not listed) and Francis Hickman. But the lineage developed for this same Robert Chamberlayne by the Chamberlain genealogist, David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr., shows that Robert & his wife Elizabeth (last name unknown) had several children christened at Lambourne beginning 10 Mar 1651/52, their marriage c1650, and her estimated birth date of 1632, which would make her 17-18 years of age at the time of the birth of her first child, which seems about right. Thus these two persons cannot be the same, unless Elizabeth's birthdate of 1640 reported in the LDS files is incorrect, and it was, instead, several years earlier. Either way, the LDS pedigrees appear to be incorrect in this regard, and one must assume that the Elizabeth who married Robert Chamberlayne & Francis Hickman was NOT a Chamberlain."

Elizabeth next married Francis HICKMAN [842] [MRIN: 378], son of Simon HICKMAN [1344] and Anne MICHELL [1345], on 31 Oct 1664 in Lambourn, , Berkshire, England. (Francis HICKMAN [842] was born on 26 Sep 1630 in Malborough, , Devonshire, England and died on 01 Aug 1687 in Chester Co, PA.)
