Certificate of Samuel Phipps's of Sixty Years Peaceable Possession - of Waynesborough, Chester County
Personally came before me John Bartholomew Esquire one of the Justices for the County of Chester Samuel Phipps Yeoman aged upwards of Ninety Years and upon his Solemn affirmation Saith that he was Personally aquainted with Thomas Edwards when he Lived upon and owned the Plantation of place called Waynesborough Situate in the Township of Easttown in the County of Chester and State of Pennsylvania between Sixty and seventy years Since and in his peaceable Possession and that he was also personally aquainted with Anty Wayne (the Grandfather) who purchased the said place of Plantation from the said Thomas Edwards and lived thereon in Peaceable Possession from the Beginning of the Year one Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty-four untill the Beginning of the year one Thousand seven hundred and Thirty Nine of thereabouts and that he was Likewise personally aquainted with Isaac Wayne Esqre (the Father) who held the said Estate in fee beginning in the year 1774 when he conveyed the same Estate to his son Major Genl Anthony Wayne and named it Waynesbourough to the truth of which the said Samuel Phipps has Signed his nanme this fifteenth day of October 1784. Samuel Phipps affirmed this fifteenth day of October 1784 before Jno. Bartholomew. I do Certify that the said Samuel Phipps is an Ancient freeholder in the County of Chester aforesaid and a near Neighbor to General Wayne and that he is a person of known Integrity, to whose Testimony the fullest faith and Credit is due and ought to be Given.
Jno. Bartholomew Recorded the 27th day of August 1787
Samuel Phipps wrote his will Mar. 23, 1785 mentioning family including Mary Moore Batten
