PENNSYLVANIA ARCHIVES, series 2, volume 17, NAMES OF FOREIGNERS WHO
TOOK THE OATH OF ALLEGIENCE p.68 List of foreigners imported in the
ship DRAGON, Capt. Hargrave, Master from Rotterdam. Qualified Sept.
30, 1732 : JOHANNES SCHREYIACKH p.69 "The original list is herewith
given" : JOHANNES SHRYOK PENNSYLVANIA COLONIAL RECORDS, vol III, p.485
giving the same list as above : JOHANNES SHYROKTZ
Arrived Philadelphia on ship Dragon, from Rotterdam, last from Plymouth,
on Sept 30, 1732. Name spelled Johannes SCHREYIACKH per Rupp's book.
Typical voyages from Rotterdam to Philadelphia took about seven weeks,
so Johannes left Rotterdam sometime in the first half of August that
year. According to "The American Ancestry of Frederick Louis Huidekoper
and Reginald Shippen "Huidekoper" this is the Johannes who married Susanna
Kern. Married in Yorktown, Lancaster Co., PA, which in 1749 became York,
York Co.
Trinity Lutheran Church Records, volume i, Smith and Weiser, 1988, p.44,
marriage 29 August 1736, Johannes Schreyack and Susanna Kirnin
MONOCACY AND CATOCTIN, Volume III, additions and corrections to the
History of Frederick County, Maryland, by T.J.C. Williams and Folger
McKinsey (1910), p.52 Johannes Schreyack signed the Lutheran Articles
of Muhlenburg in 1747 at Monocacy Church south of later Thurmont. In
1760 John Shriock (wife Jane) bought 4 pieces of land northwest of later
Lewistown. (my note : wife Jane unknown at this time. John's second
wife was Anna Sabina Wolfe according to most records, and he should
have been still married to her if to anyone in 1760)
Pioneers of Old Monocacy, p.145-146 : the 1747 visit of Henry Melchior
Muhlenberg, German Lutheran minister, sent to this country to help organize
the Lutheran Church in Frederick County. 24 Jun 1747, Muhlenberg wrote
a church constitution for the Frederick Lutheran Church. The constitution
is written in English, and Muhlenberg explained it to the congregation
in German. The constitution is signed by 34 men : among them Johannes
Schryack.
Clara May Shryock lists Johannes as John 1st. when noting his spelling
of the name Schryock in his wills of 1754 and 1785, but does not use
him as the father of John 2nd. Gusta Eloise Shryock lists Johannes as
Johannes Sr. and his son as Johannes Jr., but traces him to (Hans Michael)
the middle born of the three brothers who arrived in Philadelphia in
1733, as does Joseph Grundy Shryock in his 1930 genealogy, as does the
following entry in the Compendium of American Genealogy....
CAG, Virkus, Vol IV, p. 625-626 : John (Hans Johannes)(Schreyack, Schryock)
Shryock (1705-1788), son of Friederick von Schrieck, originally from
Bois Le Duc, Duchy of Brabant, and known as Van Schrieck who lived in
the kingdom of Prussia: came from Germany in the 'Hope', with two brothers
to Phila., 1733: took oath of allegiance: Lutheran: first settled in
that part of Lancaster Co., which in 1749 was made York Co., later they

or Kern (1713-50)
Joseph Grundy Shryock quotes a letter written by John (son of John Leonard)
dated 23 Jan 1839, to his son John, a sea captain in New Orleans, wherein
John (son of Leonard) states that his grandfather was named John and
was one of three brothers who came to this country about 1730.
GES "John and Susanna reared their 6 children on their first homestead
"Toddy" where 5 of their children were born. Leonard, their first child,
was born at Yorktown, Lancaster Co., PA, after which they moved to Toddy.
Here they lived until 1748 when, having bought a permanent homestead
in Manchester Twp., York Co., PA, they returned to that place. He was
a carpenter by trade - having been trained in the block and pump-making
business. He was also a farmer. 'Manor of Springettsburg' was on the
west side of the Susquehanna River, in Lancaster Co., PA, part of which
is now York Co., PA. 13 Apr 1748 Michael Watteck conveyed to John SCHRYOCK,
