It was recorded that he lived in Philadelphia, PA on 8 August 1768 and
in Cumberland County, PA in 1771.
He was married to Rachel Phipps sometime between 1760 and 1765. Kept
White Horse Tavern in E. Whiteland Township, 1763-1764. Captain in Capt.
Jas. Young's Company of Cumberland County Militia in 1780. From the
"Pennsylvania Centre Democrat" newspaper : James Aston's grandfather
and great grandfather came from England in the spring of 1755.

If mill and plantation in East Caln on Brandywine shall be recovered
by law, then the sum of £100 to be paid to Jonathan Phipps and £50 to
his sister Anne Phipps, children of Joseph Phipps, Jr., but not otherwise.
To Benj. Phipps son of Esther Crosby a plantation containing about 135
acres in Uwchlan. ""£10 to be paid toward repairing Quaker graveyard
in Uwchlan."" Proven in Botetourt County, Virginia. Executors: Friends
John Nowles of Ridley and Elisha Price of Chester. Letters c.t.a. Caleb
