"... William I. succeeded his father in the seigneury of Belesme, to
which he added the county of Perche; and Duke Richard II. gave him the
castle of Alenc,on and its dependencies. And it is thought that the
county of Domfront was also given to him, since he built the castle
of that name, and founded about the year 1025, in the neighboring forest,
the abbey of Lonlai. Notwithstanding this act of piety, William was
none the less unprincipled in his character. Envious and sanguinary,
this disposition had made him commit great disorders. Dying about the
year 1028, he had by his wife Mathilde,
I. Foulques, who was killed in a combat near Blavon.
II. Robert, who succeeded him.
III. Warin, or Guerin, Seigneur de Domfront, married Melisende, or Mathilde,
sister of Hugh, Archbishop of Tours, and died about 1026."
