In the name of God Amen: I ELIZABETH FOWLER of Baydon widdow being of whole mind and in good and perfitte remembrance laude and praise be unto Almighty God make and ordaine this present Testament concerning herein my last will in manner and forme followinge That is to say First I Commend my soule unto Almightie God my maker and Redeemer and my bodie to be buried in the Church my Bedd with all the aptinances there unto belonginge and mine apparrell as well lyning as woollinge and my will is that after my DAUGHTER JOANS decease this said apparrell to remaine to her daughters
I give and bequeath unto Steven HEATH Fortie shillings, I give and bequeath unto Margret HEATH three pounds, I give and bequeath unto Edyth HEATH three pounds, I give and bequeath unto Jane HEATH three pounds, I give and bequeath unto James HEATH twentie shillings my Will is this to be paid within twelve mounth after my decease I give to BENIAMIN BARLY JUNIOR twenty shillings I give and bequeath unto MARGERY STROUD and JOANE WHITYARD five shillings apeece I give and bequeath unto my sonne Stephens fowre Children Five shillings apeece I give and bequeath unto my SONNE STEPHEN fortie shillings my Will is this to be paid Within twelve mounth after my decease I give and bequeath unto the poore of Alborne Tenn shillinges All the rest of my goods movable and unmoveable I give and bequeath unto my SONNE BENIAMINE whome I ordaine and make my whole Executor of this my last will and Testament And I request THO. "... Steven Barley wrote his will in 1601. He leaves 2 quarters of barley to his grandchildren, the children of Robert Heath. No doubt he grew barley. Mentions Benjamin and Steven "my sonnes". He makes his wife Elizabeth executrix. Steven's period in history marks the end of the reign of King Henry VIII, the end of the Renaissance, the flowering of the Protestant Reformation, and the birth of William Shakespeare (1564). Notes taken from Church warden records of 1607 and 1611. According to Elizabeth's will, she had remarried a Fowler, so Steven was already deceased."
